Hvar’s trekking trails will take you through landscapes, vineyard-packed slopes and stonewashed villages
Hvar’s trekking trails will take you through landscapes dominated by grapevines, lavender fields and olive groves and as you pass the terraced slopes and stonewashed villages in which hospitality and wine are the local currency, you will be treated to gastronomic bounty, landscapes and adventure. You may start your trekking journey in what was once the Mediterranean lavender superpower but now an abandoned stone village of Velo Grablje, pass along soaring limestone cliffs and through the mystic hamlet of Malo Grablje and southern Milna’s tunnel, and step back in time amid fascinating archaeological ruins.
Or you may start your journey in the nearby village of Svirče, on a trail that will take you past craggy hillsides to a solitary 15th century chapel on the island’s highest peak of Saint Nicholas at an elevation of 626 meters, before descending down the steep southern vineyard-packed slopes into the southern village of Sveta Nedilja and its idyllic beaches. Your all-season hiking journeys will be stretched with swimming, culinary bounty offered by traditional villages and an opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the botany of liqueurs and tinctures.
